PILOTS > TRAINING REQUIREMENTS |
Airline pilots fly passengers and cargo on a national and international basis for business, commercial and leisure purposes. The aircraft is usually operated by two pilots, depending on the type of aircraft and length of the journey. The captain, or pilot-in-command (PIC), has the overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft, including its crew. However, the First Officer also plays an equally important role during the flight. Prior to the flight, pilots study flight plans and weather conditions to ensure that the aircraft are operated as safely and efficiently as possible. Pilots are employed in a number of different areas: passenger scheduled services, passenger charter services, freight services and business aviation (general aviation).
